A hand-painted five-spout tulip vase in Iberian majolica. A heart-shaped body on a footed base, painted with an exotic bird of paradise among garden flowers in a white reserve, framed by a deep cobalt ground with yellow blooms and gilt-edged scrollwork. Five flower spouts across the top and twin scroll handles. Height 26 cm.
The multi-spout tulip vase (a quintal or finger vase) is an old Iberian and Dutch form, made to hold single stems fanned out into a spray. This one is entirely hand painted, so the bird and flowers carry the painter's own hand. No maker's mark is present.
