The Woodland Bird Vase, a Franklin Porcelain collector piece designed by the British bird painter Basil Ede. A white porcelain baluster vase banded in 24k gold at the rim and foot, painted with a European goldfinch perched among apple blossom — pink and white flowers, buds and green leaves wrapping the body. Signed “Basil Ede” in the design.
Franklin Porcelain was the porcelain arm of the American Franklin Mint, which issued collector series by subscription through the 1970s and 80s, produced in Japan. Basil Ede’s naturalistic bird studies are the most sought of these.
