Derby, a decorative faience plate by Sarreguemines of France. A blue and white transfer scene of a shepherd with his flock, a grazing horse and an arched footbridge, framed by a wide cobalt floral border. Marked Sarreguemines on the reverse.
Sarreguemines has made faience in Lorraine since the eighteenth century, and its blue-and-white pastoral plates were made to hang as much as to serve. This one dates to around the 1950s.
