A large Willow pattern tea service by Myott Son and Co, England — a service for eleven. Eleven cups, eleven saucers and eleven dessert plates, thirty-three pieces in all, printed in cobalt blue with the classic Willow scene: the pagoda, the willow tree, the bridge, the boat and the pair of doves, inside a geometric trellis border.
The Willow pattern is the most enduring of the English chinoiserie transferwares, in production since the late 18th century. A blue-and-white service at this scale sets a whole table for afternoon tea and stacks onto a dresser as a display in its own right.
