Maichel goblets, set of 6, in ruby red crystal cut to clear. A deep diamond lattice is cut through the red to the colourless layer beneath, carried on a tall faceted clear stem and a star-cut foot. 24% lead crystal, 220 ml. Hand wash only.
Cut-to-clear stemware is the top of the coloured-glass tradition: the cutting is slow, exacting work, and each facet has to line up with its neighbours around the whole bowl. Ruby is the richest of the casing colours and the one that reads best by candlelight.
