A Washington Old Willow serving platter, made in England, in the classic blue and white Willow pattern — the pagoda, the willow tree, the bridge, the boat and the two birds, printed in cobalt on a white ground, framed by the geometric Willow border. A scalloped oval platter for a dresser or a laid table.
The Willow pattern is the most enduring of the English chinoiserie transferwares, in production since the late 18th century, and Washington Old Willow is one of the standard lines carrying it. Cobalt under the glaze is smooth to the touch and does not fade with washing.
