A deep plate by Royal Tudor Ware in blue and white transferware. The centre carries a windmill and waterside scene with a punt, cottage and grazing horses, framed by a scrolled floral border. Engraved by W.N. Mellor and marked on the base.
Blue-and-white ironstone was the workhorse of the English table — hard-wearing, endlessly collectable, and as good on a plate rack as under a meal. The deep well makes this one useful for pasta or soup as well as display.
