A large ceramic water jug by Boch (Empire BFK), La Louvière, Belgium. A cream ironstone body with a green transfer border of laurel wreaths, Greek-key bands and a ribbon bow, finished with a gilt line. A generous, old-fashioned water or wash jug.
La Louvière was one of the big Belgian potteries working in the English ironstone manner, and neoclassical green-on-cream borders were a staple of the well-dressed washstand and table. Handsome enough now to stand on its own with a bunch of garden flowers.
